Open Houses Are A Success!

Envisioning a major transit line that has not been built can be a challenge, but community members did just this at a series of Open Houses that the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) held in June. The Open Houses allowed community members to imagine how the Red Line would look as it traveled through the corridor and gain an idea of how stations could enhance their neighborhoods. Community members experienced traveling to work, school, shopping, and attractions through the displays, conceptual drawings, and video simulations presented at four Open Houses throughout the Red Line corridor.

More than 300 community members attended the Open Houses to see the current plans for the Red Line and speak with staff to gain more insight on the project. One-on-one conversations with community members not only provided a forum for the public to have its questions addressed, but also provided the MTA with the opportunity to get the public's input on the current plans. Community members were also able to learn about and give their feedback on the MTA West Baltimore MARC and proposed Bayview MARC projects, and the Baltimore City Edmondson Avenue Bridge project.

This website will soon be updated with themes heard at the open houses. The displays and the video shown at the Open Houses and photos that chronicle the events have been posted. In the meantime, we encourage you to stay connected to the Red Line planning process:

• Speak with a Community Liaisons at one of many community events and festivals during the summer. (The summer event schedule will be available soon).
• Attend a Red Line Citizens' Advisory Council (CAC) meeting. The next CAC meeting is on Thursday, September 13, 2012. The location for the meeting has yet to be determined.
• Check the website regularly for updates on the project.
